Description

Cella Molnar & Associates, Inc. (CMA) was the public involvement consultant for the Florida Department of Transportation’s I-75 Airport Direct Connect project which built a direct connection from I-75 to Southwest Florida International Airport that delivers enhanced access from this strategic interstate corridor to one of the nation’s top 50 airports. The project included the construction of new northbound lanes parallel to I-75 from south of the Alico Road interchange and new southbound lanes parallel to I-75 south of the Daniels Parkway interchange that bridges the interstate. Traffic now flows eastbound onto a becoming boulevard over Treeline Avenue/Ben Hill Griffin Parkway onto Terminal Access Road, the entrance to the airport. Motorists leaving the airport also enjoy the same continuous connection returning to the interstate.

A Public Preconstruction Meeting was held to inform constituents about what to expect during project construction. Newsletters, notification flyers, and e-blasts were distributed to the affected stakeholders in the surrounding area. Meetings were also held with the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and its subcommittees, in addition to meetings with special interest groups and elected officials. Notification of road closures, detours, and project schedule were part of the outreach as well. Duties also include interaction with local media. A website was created to keep the public informed about the project, including detour maps, street closures and images of project progress.
